AMD hosts Brazilian Delegation at its Silicon Valley headquarters

AMD, a semiconductor design company with growing operations in Brazil, recently hosted ICT Brazilian ministers and officials at its Silicon Valley headquarters to discuss emerging computing market trends. Attendees discussed the importance of open standards and regulatory policies to drive innovation, and today’s data center, cloud, embedded, client and ultra-low power technology solutions. Initiated by ITI, AMD and other U.S. companies, Brazilian officials were interested in learning more about the innovative ecosystem that allows technology companies to establish and thrive in Silicon Valley.

As a global leader in compute and graphics processors for tablets, PCs, servers, game consoles and embedded technology, AMD executives and engineers demonstrated the latest state of the art technologies, such as Accelerated Processing Units, Heterogeneous System Architecture and ultra-dense, ultra-efficient servers. All are key technologies in promoting secure, energy-efficient and visually compelling technology experiences, especially those using the Cloud.

The U.S. IT industry is an attractive partner for the development of a strong IT industry in Brazil, the world’s 6th largest economy and 3rd largest IT market. “We want to collaborate with the U.S. IT industry to strengthen the Brazilian IT industry,” said Virgílio Almeida, Secretary of IT Policy from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

Brazil is a strategic and highly attractive market to develop R&D, hardware and software ecosystems to mutually advance individual needs. “AMD believes Brazil is an exciting and vibrant market with a sound economy that allows for a strong IT ecosystem to grow and drive development. We’ve enjoyed 30 percent growth in Brazil in 2011, and we want to continue partnering with Brazilian authorities and customers to provide meaningful opportunities in the lives of Brazilians through technology,” says Ronaldo Miranda, AMD Vice President for Latin America and General Manager for Brazil.
