When the leader of the free world walks through a door, it is usually the audience that is in a bit of awe.  But today, when President Obama visited the Applied Materials campus in Austin, Tex., the tables were turned.  After touring the facility and seeing the chip assembly facility and the precision with which the team there works, the president seemed genuinely impressed.   It was incredible.  [I [...]

Right after the President’s speech in Las Vegas today, ITI’s Dean Garfield was on Bloomberg TV with the Cato Institute’s Alex Nowrasteh and Bloomberg’s Hans Nichols.  While a host tried to put Dean and Alex at odds with each other, it turns out that they agree on many of the bipartisan proposals put forward in the last couple of days.   You can watch the interview on the Bloomberg TV website. In his Inaugural Address today, President Obama combined poetry and prose as he spoke about the priorities that he will bring to his second term in office.  For many of these issues, the technology sector has put forward ideas with backing from both Democratic and Republican Members of Congress.  The challenge consistently has been building broader support to move policies from good proposals to new [...]

Politico Pro and ITI member Cognizant co-hosted a great conversation this morning focused on immigration, technology, and the 113th Congress.  ITI's Dean Garfield was a panelist, and made the case that there is bipartisan support in Congress for high-skilled immigration reform, and, if done right, such an approach can lead to a stronger economy and greater job creation across the country.  In his remarks, [...]
